چکیده

The aim of this paper is to derive a general theory for the averaging of heterogeneous processes with stochastic nucleation and deterministic growth. We start by generalizing the classical Johnson-Mehl-Avrami-Kolmogorov theory based on the causal cone to hetereogeneous growth situations. Moreover, we relate the computation of the causal cone to a Hopf-Lax formula for Hamilton-Jacobi equations describing the growth of grains. As an outcome of the approach we obtain formulae for the expected values of geometric densities describing the growth processes, in particular we generalize the standard Avrami-Kolmogorov relations for the degree of crystallinity. By relating the computation of expected values to mesoscale averaging, we obtain a suitable description of the process at the mesoscale. We show how the variance of these mesoscale averages can be estimated in terms of quotients of the typical length on the microand on the mesoscale. Moreover, we discuss the efficient computation of the mesoscale averages in the typical case when the nucleation and growth rates are obtained from mesoscopic fields (such as e.g. temperature). Finally, we give a short outlook to possible extension such as polycrystalline growth, which turns out to be rather straight-forward when starting from our general framework.

Crystal size distribution in metamorphic rocks: an example for the relationship between nucleation and growth rates with overstepping

Crystal size distribution (CSD) in metamorphic rocks provide fundamental information about crystal nucleation and growth rate, growth time and the degree of overstepping. CSD data for garnet, staurolite, kyanite and andalusite crystals from the aureole demonstrate that the earliest formed of these minerals, garnet, has the highest population density and the shortest growth time. The last formed...

Temperature effect on the nucleation and growth of TiO2 colloidal nanoparticles

The nucleation and growth of sol-gel derived TiO2 colloidal nanoparticles have been studied using  experiment and theory as well. In this study, the temperature effect on the formation of TiO2 nanoparticles was discussed and some effective parameters such as the supply rate of solute (Q0), the mean volumic growth rate of stable nuclei during the nucleat...

Factors Affecting Energy Intensity in Provinces of Iran: Bayesian Averaging Approach

The identification of the most important factors affecting energy intensity with the aim of controlling and managing energy consumption is an important topic. Findings of different empirical studies on the factors affecting energy intensity are inconsistent and this raises uncertainty about the employed models. One of the techniques that conform to these uncertainty conditions of the model is t...

Investigation of Different Stages of Aluminum Fluoride Crystal Growth

Crystallization of Aluminum fluoride at atmospheric pressure has been considered. Structure, size and shape of crystals formed during the crystallization process have been investigated. By applying the direct analysis method for the existed aluminum in solution, the aluminum fluoride nucleation process has been detected as a concentration valley at the outset of crystallization process. The...
